"Park One" – Global Gasoline Reduction Initiative

July 7, 2008

Overview

The price of gasoline is one of the major issues impacting consumers and businesses around the world.  The high price of gasoline also is a major factor effecting upstream prices of wholesale and retail consumer and business products and services.   This plan outlines a simple strategy to reduce global gasoline prices called Park One.    This plan is designed to reduce annual global consumption of crude oil from 86 million barrels a day to 75 million barrels a day with 12-months.

Strategy

The Institute for Global Excellence (IGE) recommends the following strategy to reduce the price of gasoline over the next five years:

- All United Nations member countries should implement a volunteer moratorium program requesting all consumers and businesses to not drive gasoline powered vehicles for one day a week. The brand name of the program is called “Park One”.

- Although all moratoriums should be voluntary, each country should emphasize personal sacrifice by its citizens as a core message for this program.

- This moratorium should be implemented by each country within 30-days of United Nations approval.

- Each country should initiate support for the program with a major speech by its respective President/Prime Minister.

- Each country should also promote the program online and through public service announcements.

- Key oil producing countries should also agree to maintain oil output for 12 months as part of this initiative.

- Non-profit organizations, businesses, local and state governments, schools, colleges, universities, associations, religious organizations and other entities should immediately adopt Project One and promote the concepts among its constituents.

Implementation

The United Nations should organize the program and development performance reports on a monthly basis.

Summary

The above brief outlines positive actions that can be taken by United Nations member countries to reduce the price of gasoline.
