The
Camel Brief - An Alternative Solution to the Iran Nuclear Standoff
September 11,
2006
Overview
This brief, developed by
the Institute
for Global Excellence (IGE), provides suggestions as
to how to resolve the Iran nuclear standoff by addressing what we believe is the real
motivations of Iran; increasing the price of oil for pure financial gain. IGE believes that lower global oil
prices will force Iran to back off from its nuclear ambitions.
Environment
The widespread premise of
the Iran nuclear standoff is that Iran wants to develop a nuclear bomb so that they can
attack Israel. However, Iran knows that
if they attacked Israel with a nuclear bomb, their entire country would probably be
destroyed in a counter attack. Although the
Iranian regime is somewhat radical, we believe that the Iranian regime is rational when it
comes to the long-term survival of its country and its people. So why is Iran trying to develop nuclear
technology? What if the real motive for
Irans actions is common greed? IGE
believes that the underlying goal of the Iranian regime is to manufacture a nuclear crisis
in order to increase the price of oil? By increasing the price of oil, Iran can generate
the cash needed to build its military, help rebound its economy and build the
countys infrastructure. Oil is
Irans only real resource and they may be believe that higher oil prices is the meal
ticket to a better Iran.
Iran Nuclear Resolution
Plan
IGE recommends the
following actions to resolve the Iran Nuclear Conflict:
- Develop a G-8 global
price containment plan with a target price of under $55 a barrel.
- Develop a coordinated
plan by the G-8 nations to systematically release 10% of their strategic oil reserves into
the global markets to increase global oil supply.
- Provide tax incentives
for all G-8 nations for alternative energy development.
-
Develop an oil trading division within the U.S. Energy department to implement strategies
aimed at reducing the amount overall level of speculation in the crude oil market by 20%.
- Increase the level of
ethanol in gasoline from 10% to 15% within the U.S. and within other G8 countries using an
ethanol blend.
- Add the security of
global oil properties as an objection in the global war on terror.
Implementation
This program should be
implemented by the G-8 nations with assistance from the United Nations.
Summary
The above brief outlines positive actions that can be taken to
address the Iran nuclear standoff. These
strategies should drive oil prices down and force Iran to abandon their nuclear ambitions.
